Chapter 1: Hope in the Dark

Jun 19, 2021    Samuel Mwangi

Seeds of Hope is an epic transformational encounter with the Bambuti people group. The Bambuti are a minority group in the truest sense of the word. Found in the east and central part of Africa, the Bambuti are politically underrepresented, marginalized, and in many ways forgotten.

Following God’s leading, Samuel Mwangi started the inspiring journey in 2003 when he was invited to participate in a Short-Term Mission (STM) to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Moved by the destitute and plight of the Bambuti community, he was compelled to light a lantern, blow the trumpet, and start an initiative to bring a lasting sustainable transformation of the lives of the Bambuti people.

The Bambuti people have faced untold atrocities, marginalization, and severe violation of human rights. Being one of the smallest people groups that eke their living in the deep tropical equatorial forest of Congo, their plight rarely catches the mainstream media. They are surrounded by militia groups and wild animals and reside in a difficult terrain that makes their access to public services extremely difficult.

Driven by sheer compassion and love, Samuel has spent countless days and nights with the Bambuti people. He has listened to their stories, studied their culture, raised resources from himself and his friends to transform their lives through community development activities. He strengthened their voice through advocacy programs and now tells their story to the world, intending to change their predicament.

This story will move you and stir you into action. I strongly recommend it to scholars, researchers, policymakers, development workers, and those who care to see justice for all, especially indigenous people groups.

Samuel challenges readers to sow seeds of love and hope to those that God brings our ways, thus changing the world one person at a time.
